Crown reduction is used to reduce the height and/or
spread of the crown of a tree by the removal of the ends of branches
whilst maintaining the tree's natural shape as far as possible.
Why have it done?
Crown reduction is often used when a tree has grown too large for
its permitted space. It is preferred to topping because it results
in a more natural appearance, increases the time before pruning
is needed again and minimises stress.
This type of pruning can be completed for a number
of reasons to achieve a range of management objectives, from purely
aesthetic when used to shape an entire canopy, to the reduction
of one limb where excessive weight may threaten failure.
